Bio Active Modifiers
This advanced technology is widely utilized by Dr. José F. Lázaro to enhance the predictability and healing of the bone graft and the gingiva.
The most common utilized bio-active modifiers are:
- Platelet-Rich Fibrin
- Recombinant Platelet-Derived Growth Factors
- Bone Morphogenic Proteins.
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a by-product of the patient’s own blood (plasma) that contains growth factors that will enhance soft and hard tissue healing. Small amount of blood is draw from the patient and the plasma is process in the office while the patient is having the procedure perform. PRF allows for slow constant release of growth factors to the bone graft and the gingiva for 7-11 days. This process will stimulate the own’s body stem cells to develop into the surgical area.
Another type of growth factor is highly purified recombinant human platelet derived growth factor. This is a complete synthetic grafting material that is engineer to stimulate and enhance wound healing and bone regeneration when implanted in the body. This type of growth factor is made entirely manufactured in the laboratory, under sterile conditions. Usually possesses 1000 time more growth factor than the PRF adjuvant.
The other growth factor utilized is Bone Morphogenic Protein. This is a natural occurring protein found in human bone and it is a strong and powerful stimulant of bone formation. This protein is completely synthetic (laboratory process) and it is added into the bone graft material. This bone mixture is used in Maxillary Sinus Augmentation as well as to reconstruct the jaw bone prior to the placement of Dental Implants. This material has been proven to be reliable and predictable.
